When you fill out your WMI Application, you will be asked to select an Elective. Please choose your first, second and third choices. 

  • Electronic Music with Garage Band

    LEADER: Marlon Jones Learn how to create and produce music using your own portable studio (your iphone, ipad or mac) Welcome to Garageband!

  • Gospel Choir

    LEADER: Terron Craig Gospel music originated in the evangelical churches of black populations, and contains elements of jazz, blues, and pop styles. Here’s the opportunity to experience the culture of gospel choirs and have fun singing popular songs of the genre. Limit 4 per division

  • I Wanna Dance with Somebody

    LEADER: Summar Bussey

  • Introduction to Running Sound

    LEADER: Kylie Heringer In this class we will learn what is what on a couple of different soundboards and basic audio engineering. We will look at mic placement, cable management, and mixing techniques.

  • Mariachi

    LEADER: Lt. Angel Amezquita This elective class is your opportunity to experience performing vocal and instrumental music through the energy, culture, and Alegria of Mariachi. No experience needed. Instrumentation for this ensemble includes, but is not limited to 7 violins, 1 guitarron, 1 vihuela, 3 trumpets, 2 acoustic guitars, and everyone sings.

  • Music Composition

    LEADERS: Marcus Venables & Kevin Larsson

  • Music Theory

    LEADER: Andrew Sholin Learn the basic fundamentals of music theory and learn how “music works” Materials will be provided.

  • Musical Theater

    LEADERS: Vanessa & Jeremiah Gamble Basic 101 musical theater class, you’ll get up on your feet and sing!

  • Percussion Ensemble

    LEADERS: Tyler Griffin & David Dickinson Learn how to work as a team and explore different sounds and instruments within the percussion family. Must read music to participate.

  • Social Justice

    LEADERS: Lauren Westwood & Jacqui Larsson

  • Steel Drums

    LEADERS: Marc Smith, Jonah Perine Come and have some fun with the steel pan brigade and make music using very distinctive instruments and sounds. No experience needed.

  • Timbrels

    LEADER: Sarah Stillson The timbrel elective celebrates an exciting part of our army heritage. Jingle-jangles, colorful ribbons, and choreographed drills come together to create a unique form of worship.

  • Ukulele

    LEADER: Kyle Santiago & John Opina Come and either learn to play or develop the skills you already have as you learn the ukulele.

  • Vocal Leadership

    LEADER: Karl Westwood

  • Worship Band Leadership

    LEADER: Nico Gil Learn how to develop each member of your Worship team.

Vocal Auditions

Instructions for WMI vocal audition.

  1. Print or download the Vocal Audition Sheet. (Make sure it’s the right file for your voice. Soprano, alto, tenor, or bass.)
  2. You can practice as much as you like. There are practice tracks for two sections of the audition you’ll need to complete. Goodness of God and This Kingdom. (See audition sheet for details)
  3. Once you are ready, go to www.usamusicwest.org/wmi2024 on your phone and click on the appropriate Audition Track for your voice.
  4. When the track starts, go to your camera. Under photo mode and WITHOUT HEADPHONES, press and hold the capture button, then swipe right. (Android users swipe left.) This setting will record your voice as well as the phone audio.
  5. Go through the whole audition (roughly seven minutes), and then press stop on the camera.
  6. You can try the audition as many times as you like, but you can only upload ONE UNEDITED VERSION!
  7. Upload the video by clicking on the ‘Upload Vocal Audition’ button on www.usamusicwest.org/wmi2024 .
  8. It will ask for your name. Please write it in this format: Last name First name part vocal audition. E.g. Smith Neil Tenor Vocal audition

WMI Soloist Showcase 2024
On-Line Audition Guidelines

This year at WMI, we are asking all the students who want to participate in the event to record their solos and submit an online audition. It will save us some time at camp.

  • To be able to participate at camp, you must submit an online audition by July 12, 2024. 
  • Once that audition is submitted, you must sing, dance, play the same piece when you arrive at WMI.
  • There will be rehearsal time for you and an accompanist if you need one.
  • All sheet music and tracks (dance) must be uploaded at the time of submitting your audition.
  • If you are a vocalist or dancer, please also upload a typed/printed copy of the lyrics.
  • For monologues, the full script must be uploaded
  • Full uniform/fatigues should be worn for the WMI Showcase unless you need a costume/dance attire.

IMPORTANT

You can choose your music from

  • CLASSICAL MUSIC REPERTOIRE for your instrument/voice
  • WORSHIP songs – properly arranged for voice/instrument – no scraps of paper with chords on
  • MUSICALS – ONLY appropriate songs from APPROPRIATE musicals can be chosen. Songs must use language appropriate to our Christian Environment
  • DANCE TRACKS must use camp appropriate lyrics/music
  • NEW MUSIC  – You may submit a song that you have composed yourself.  Your song must be appropriate for our camp setting and is subject to approval by the THQ Music Department.
